Michigan ranked 24th in private sector employment growth from 2014 to 2015, down from the 21st fastest growth rate in the country from 2013 to 2014. Michigan’s private sector employment growth rate was slightly ahead of the “Top Ten” average, but came behind eight of its peers: California, Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and Texas.

What It Is: Average number of residents with a private sector job.

Why It Matters: Higher levels of private employment indicate both economic strength and prosperity among the state’s residents.
