Michigan’s days to pay taxes has increased by three days in each of the past two years. This trend is roughly in line with the trend in other states, largely due to increases in federal taxes.

What It Is: The number of days a year that represent the portion of the year's earnings that are paid in federal, state, and local taxes.

Why It Matters: Lower tax burdens mean more take-home income for state residents.
