Michigan 8th graders are performing below both the “Top Ten” and peer state averages. Although the percentage of students attaining math proficiency grew by 2.7 percentage points between 2015 and 2017, over eight percent fewer students achieved the “proficient” level relative to “Top Ten” states.

Why It Matters: This provides an indicator of how well schools are meeting competitive academic standards.
